<\/a><\/p>\nEven Bernie here knows that we need to do whatever<\/span> it takes in order to see our way clear and make progress!\u00a0 Vision is essential…it’s even written that “without vision, the people perish.”\u00a0 As you all know, I’m BIG on building strategic business plans to run and grow your business; and a powerful vision is an essential element of that plan to\u00a0propel you to the top of your game, AND to the top of the “success pyramid”.<\/p>\n Yes,\u00a0vision is a hugely important element, yet often glossed over or ignored.\u00a0 This “vision gap” explains why some people who for 10- 15 years have been on a steady growth path, suddenly become bored.<\/p>\n In most cases, the reason is that they are trying to move forward using yesterday\u2019s plan…yesterday’s vision.\u00a0 What a shame!\u00a0 So much more can be achieved, and passion renewed by “upping” the vision to something that truly excites and inspires.<\/p>\n Expecting tomorrow to be more rewarding, while using an outdated plan, is like trying to drive to New York with a 1955\u00a0road map. You may get there, but at a high cost in time, energy and unnecessary frustration. Is that what you want?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Using the map analogy, above, there are three obvious problems when you don’t have a map OR a personal vision, and<\/strong>\u00a0both instances cause long-term problems:<\/strong><\/p>\n How to fix this?<\/p>\n Go into the future.\u00a0 Failing to start with what you REALLY want (for your company, yourself, your family, your legacy, etc.) is kind of like doing a “Fire! ready, aim” sequence.\u00a0 In other words, there’s no real target.\u00a0 You’re just shooting!\u00a0 What a sorry waste of time.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n So, what do you want?\u00a0 What does the word “success”– the STATE of being in “success”– mean to YOU?\u00a0 How will you know when you get there?\u00a0 Thoughtful answers to those questions are probably a lot closer than what you may\u00a0think at\u00a0first.<\/p>\n Start by answering these questions:<\/strong>\u00a0 What is the one area or condition in the state of the world that I’d like to impact?\u00a0 What would I like to do with and for my family?\u00a0 What kind of legacy would I like to leave?\u00a0 How would I like to spend my leisure time?\u00a0 Where?\u00a0 How often? With whom?\u00a0 How would I like to expand my giving back to the world?\u00a0 How would I like to expand\/educate\/grow myself?<\/p>\n Apply the idea \u201cmake the future happen inside of you\u201d as often as you can.\u00a0 It is a great way to create a \u201cbridge\u201d to what you want.<\/p>\n Ask yourself several times a day, “Is what I’m doing at this moment leading me to what I most want?”<\/p>\n The thing is, if you can decide what you want, you can also decide how to get it.<\/em>\u00a0Most of us gloss over the \u201cwhat I want\u201d questions too quickly….so, please, take time to think deeply about these things.<\/p>\n Action item \u2013”a week of wants”:<\/strong><\/p>\n Spend the next week mulling over where you want to be in 18 to 24 months.\u00a0 Write things down as they come to you, or do a “brain dump” or a “heart storm” (as opposed to a\u00a0brain storm) session alone or with your “nearest and dearest”.\u00a0 Write in a journal or carry index cards for the whole time.<\/p>\n Here are the rules: No edits allowed and no trying to answer the \u201chow\u201d questions. Just let it flow, and jot down your ideas.
