A Recipe to Release the Old, Bring In the New

Are you like me? There are feelings, habits, hurts that I want to clear out of my life, heart and mind; and so many fresh, loving, joyful things I want to bring in–not just for 2015, but waaay beyond. You and I have too many gifts to bring to the world, and too many wonderful things to experience to have any “negative weights” hanging around our necks or blocking our paths!  The thing is, like old clothes, junk and other things, these things need to be cleaned out!  They’re just getting in our way.
Here’s a method I use every new year to release old things that are cluttering my thoughts, soul, environment (and are, just generally not in my best interest); and, conversely, bring in what I do want–those things that nurture and  uplift my mind, body, heart and soul in ways that energize and feed me for the days and years ahead.
This is a wonderful exercise to do alone, or with a close friend or loved one.  Your choice.

(As a reminder, the wonderful free webinar, “Achieve Your Dreams–Envision, Strategize, and Move Boldly Into the New Year” is January 7th at 6 PM, PST. More information here. )

Recipe for Releasing the Old, and Bringing in the New:
What you’ll need:
1. a fireplace or other safe place to do a little burning and lighting–could even be your kitchen sink. (This won’t take much space, and is safe..believe me!)
2. matches (I prefer long ones)
3. little slips of paper
4. candles (any kind will do–I use little votive candles, tall  candles, whatever I have on hand.  I use a LOT of  candles, because there’s always a LOT I want to work on! :-)  )
5. a sheet of paper
6. pen or pencil

A. Sit down, relax take 3 slow, deep breaths, (and say a prayer if you choose)  and write on the small slips of paper all of the things you want to release, change, or have less of. One item per piece of paper.  Examples: resentment, judging, procrastination, loneliness, anger, unforgiveness, lack of productivity, impatience, selfishishness.
B. On the sheet of paper, list all the things that are the exact opposite of the things on the little paper pieces.  These are your new items of hope, and each candle represents an item on this list for the new year.
C. Now gather up all of the paper (including the list of opposites), the candles, matches, and go to your fireplace, fire pit or kitchen sink
D. Close your eyes, breathe deeply and slowly, and say to the Divine, to the Universe, to Source (it’s from your heart, and in your words): “In honor and in love to myself and those around me, I release these things that do not serve me, others, or the world”.
E. Then, one by one, light one slip of paper, and say, for example,  “I release impatience”–and put the burning piece in the fireplace. Then, “I release judging”–and put it in the fireplace.  Do this one by one by one until all pieces are gone, and their flames are releasing up to the Universe.
F. Using the flames from what you’ve released, light the candles, one by one.  Each candle represents an item on your list for the new year.   Say, for example, as you light the first candle. “I light the flame of acceptance”.  Then, as you light the second candle,  “I light the flame of patience”, or “I light the flame of getting things done”. Do this, one by one, until you have established a new flame for every new hope.
G. When all candles are lit, I recommend you use this time as a time of silence, praying or meditating over the list of new feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and let the candles continue to burn for a while, to symbolize illuminating the path of hope for the new year.
H. Finally, for the next week (better, for the next month), read the list to yourself when you get up in the morning and right before you go to sleep, and celebrate or give thanks for the growth and hope that is part of who you are.

Much Love and Happy New Year!  And hope to “see” you on January 7th (and you’ll get my new book, Stuckness, to boot!)

John Maxwell—Re: Nelson Mandela–Our Cell Does Not Define Our Value
Almost two years ago, on a trip to the African continent, I was privileged to speak in Cape Town, South Africa. While there, I received a very meaningful gift from my friend Shaun Battleman: a visit and private tour of Robben Island.
If you haven’t heard of Robben Island and the prison that used to be there, you might have heard of one of its more famous prisoners: Nelson Mandela. You might also be familiar with this picture of him in his jail cell, where he spent many years of his life for the “crime” of protesting South Africa’s policy of apartheid.
On a sunny spring day in Cape Town, we boarded Shaun Battleman’s yacht and traveled over to Robben Island. After disembarking, we were taken on a private tour of the facility (which is now a museum). Our tour guide, Jama, had been imprisoned there at the same time as Mandela.
Once we entered the former prison, the doors were slammed shut – to give us a sense of what it felt like to be locked in. We saw the area where prisoners were issued a number and lost the use of their name, along with the censor’s office, where news from loved ones was literally cut out of letters.
Most significantly, we visited Nelson Mandela’s cell – the one in the picture above. The furnishings consisted of a bucket, a stool, and a “bed” that was really just a mat on the floor. Jama allowed me to unlock the cell door and enter the space that had been “home” to Mandela for so long. First, I lay down on the mat – it was very uncomfortable, as you might imagine. Then I looked out the cell window onto the prison yard, just like Mandela did above. And I was overcome with emotion, inspired by Nelson Mandela’s courage and commitment. For you see, he never stopped fighting apartheid, even while imprisoned.
He and fellow prisoners, who were not allowed to interact, met in the one place in the whole prison where the guards left them alone: the cave that they had to use as a toilet. Because of the smell of the cave, the guards would not go in. So it was there that Mandela and his fellow prisoners discussed the future of South Africa.
Released in 1990 after the dismantling of the system of segregation, Mandela went on to serve as first president of the new South Africa from 1994 to 1999. And after retiring, he continued to serve his people. He’s now almost 95 years old, and one of the leaders that I admire most who I haven’t been able to meet. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to meet him, but I can tell you the lessons I’ve learned from him. This is what I took away from my visit to his prison:
  • Our surroundings need not control our spirit.
  • People who devalue us do not determine our value.
  • Dreams can be birthed during the daily grind.
  • Out of our brokenness, we can be made whole and bring healing to others.
The writer in the Bible’s book of Proverbs wrote, “A man’s gift makes room for him.” Nelson Mandela had no room in his cell, but his gift could not be contained. In time, his gift made room for him to lead and bless his country.

Happy Winter, Happy New Year!

The Pervasive Power of Gratitude

As we put our hands together in gratitude, we open them up to receive more…a strange and true fact of life. In fact, research shows that gratitude is probably THE SINGLE most beneficial habit that we can cultivate!

Cicero, the Roman philosopher, said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of all virtues, but the parent of all others.”  And according to Anthony Robbins,”When you are grateful, fear disappears and ABUNDANCE appears.”  So why not find something to be grateful for every single minute of the day?? Imagine what abundance you’ll experience!

Need convincing?? Let’s look at the potent, pervasive power of gratitude….

To start (and end) with, gratitude creates more happiness.  It improves our health, relationships, emotions, personality, career, and productivity! Yup…and so much more. Below are researched results of having a “Gratitude Attitude”. (from more than 40 research studies. See: HappierHuman.com)

1. Gratitude makes us happier.

A five-minute-a-day gratitude journal can increase your long-term well-being by more than 10 percent. Roughly the same impact as doubling your income…wow!  It’s so much easier to express gratitude than it is to double your income, AND gratitude can also help your income increase.  It’s a double win!

2. Gratitude makes more people like us.

Gratitude increases “social capital”, by making us nicer, more trusting, more social, and more appreciative. This translates into having more friends, deeper relationships, and improved marriages.  In fact, two studies (with 250 participants) showed that participants who were 10% more grateful than average had 17.5% more social breadth and depth, than others who did not have a “gratitude attitude”.

3. Gratitude makes us more optimistic.

There’s a strong correlation between gratitude and optimism. Optimism then makes us happier, improving our health, which has been shown to increase lifespan by as much as a few years!  Wouldn’t that make taking 5 minutes a day to write down your “gratitudes du jour” well worth the time?

4. Gratitude makes us healthier.

In several studies, people keeping gatitude journals demonstrated the following shifts in their health: fewer physical symptoms, less pain., longer and better sleep,  more time spent exercising, less physical pain, better relaxation, less depression, lower blood pressure.

5. Gratitude strengthens our emotions.

Gratitude reduces feelings of envy, makes our memories happier, lets us experience good feelings, and helps us bounce back from stress.

6.Gratitude reduces materialism.

Gratitude causes us to focus less on things that don’t matter, like making money, and more on the things that do, like family, friends and using our gifts.  Now, there’s nothing wrong with wanting more, but materialism is strongly correlated with reduced well-being and increased rates of mental disorder. Materialism makes people feel less competent, reduces their ability to appreciate and enjoy the good in life, makes them more self-centered.  Materialism also generates negative emotions, AND reduces feelings of relatedness and gratitude.  I’d say go with gratitude first.

7. Gratitude boosts our career.

Gratitude makes us more effective managers, helps us network, increases decision making capabilities, increases productivity, and helps you get mentors and proteges. As a result, gratitude helps us achieve career goals, as well as making the workplace a more friendly and enjoyable place to be.

6. Gratitude develops our personality.

By making us more optimistic, more relaxed, more loving, more spiritual, with better self esteem, and less self-centeredness.

7. Gratitude improves us socially.

It makes us more friendly, more respectful, have better marriages, more friends, and deeper relationships.

10 Habits of Highly Happy People (and why it matters to you!)

There are four things everyone wants.  To be: happier, wealthier, healthier, and to have better relationships.  Guess which of these is the one that will almost ensure you will achieve the other 3….that’s right!  It’s happiness!
Many of us think “when I’m healthier, or wealthier, or have better relationships, then I will be happy”. But, guess what? That’s backward!
Research shows that happy people are more productive (and therefore, more likely to earn more), are healthier, and have better relationships. You can choose happiness right now, regardless of circumstances. And you must choose it, if you want things to change in your life.
If happiness is a choice, what can you do to start planting, fertilizing, watering and cultivating it to take root deep in you and continue to flourish and bear fruit for many years?  Here are 10 “Happiness Habits” borrowed from Mind Movies.  Adopt one per week, and see how your life–and success–begins to change. (If you have employees, create a “culture of happiness” in your company…and watch employee turnover and absenteeism drop, and productivity soar!)

Habit #1: Appreciate life ~ Develop an attitude of gratitude and count your blessings! When you start looking for things to be thankful for, you’ll discover more reasons to be grateful.

Habit #2: Keep learning ~ Invest time and energy into continually learning and developing new skills. Keep your brain stimulated with exciting information and hobbies.

Habit #3: Do what you love ~ This may seem obvious, but a majority of people dislike their job! Choose a career that you enjoy and make time in your schedule for your hobbies and to pursue special interests.

Habit #4: Laughter – Don’t take life too seriously! Laugh at yourself, make light of your circumstances and infuse fun into daily activities.

Habit #5: Forgiveness – Holding onto anger, resentment or jealousy will only hurt you. Learn to forgive others & yourself for mistakes. Let it go and move on.

Habit #6: Meditation ~ More and more research is showing that meditation has major benefits on health and well-being. It increases positive emotions, life satisfaction and immune function.

Habit #7: Love ~ Nurture your relationships with friends & family and make it a priority to spend time with and to support your loved ones.

Habit #8: Stop comparing ~ Happy people don’t waste their time worrying about what other people think, or with gossiping. Let go of the need to judge or criticize. Instead concentrate on creating and living YOUR best life.

Habit #9: Be positive! ~ Make an effort to see the glass half full and always look for the silver lining in any situation. If you notice a negative thought creeping into your mind, counteract it with a powerful, positive affirmation.

Habit #10: Surround yourself with those who take you higher ~ Surround yourself with happy, positive people who truly want the best for you and support you on your journey to success.

The more you incorporate these 10 habits into your daily life, the happier (and wealthier, healthier, with better relationships) you’ll be.

“R.E.S.P.E.C.T.! Find out what it means to…”

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.!  Find out what it means to YOU…. as a leader in your life, your community, your family and in your business!
I loved this latest piece by John Maxwell, and had to share it with you!  Here’s to your growth!

Below are seven action steps that can enable you to earn respect from those you lead.

  • Respect yourself and those you work with (and live with! LH)
  • Exceed the expectations of others
  • Stand firm on your convictions and principles
  • Possess maturity beyond your years
  • Experience success in your family life and career
  • Contribute to the success of others
  • Think ahead of others

1) Respect yourself and those you work with
Self-respect comes with understanding who you are – your personality and purpose. You may not always win, but when you routinely give outstanding effort and you will experience success. Do not take failure or criticism personally. After failing, never give yourself permission to self-identify as a failure.
Respect is a building block of meaningful relationships, and it comes about when we place value on other people. As Ari Kiev writes, “Everyone wants to feel that he/ she counts for something and is important to someone. Invariably, people will give their love, respect, and attention to the person who fills that need.” In other words, believing the best in people brings out the best in people.
2) Exceed the Expectations of Others
Begin by setting high personal standards for yourself. Get rid of the “get by” mentality and push yourself to work with excellence and not just adequacy. After that, learn the expectations others have of you—both your teammates and customers. Finally, fulfill those expectations and go beyond them.
3) Stand Firm on Your Convictions and Principles
Strong convictions precede great actions. As a leader it’s always tempting to make palatable decisions that promise safety instead of bold ones that involve risk.
4) Possess a Maturity Well-Beyond Your Years
One mark of maturity is the willingness to assume responsibility. As Ed Cole said, “Maturity doesn’t come with age; it comes with acceptance of responsibility.” Another sign of maturity is consistency—routinely delivering results. A third indication of maturity is character, or the willingness to do what’s right even when it’s costly. A fourth and final mark of maturity is confidence. People more readily follow leaders who exude faith in their abilities.
5) Experience Success in Your Family and Career

Neither success nor failure is a one-time event. Rather, both result from the accumulation of thousands of seemingly insignificant actions done day-by-day and week-by-week. Identify which activities, performed daily, will develop you into the type of leader you aspire to be and then be relentless about practicing them.
6) Contribute to the Success of Others
However you define success, it has to involve helping people. In the words of Alan Loy McGinnis: “There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being—to help someone succeed.”
7) Think Ahead of Others
Leaders gain respect because they think ahead of others and more deeply than others. They project their minds into the future, and they discipline themselves to put sustained thought into major issues facing their team.

Accelerating Success With a Mastermind Group

You’ve heard that when it comes to solving problems or seeing possibilities, “two heads are better than one”, right? For the past 9 months I’ve been working with 3 business partners, “birthing” a new business–and I can attest to the fact that 4 heads are more than twice as good as two! So imagine having a permanent group of five or six people who meet every week or two for the purpose of problem solving, brainstorming, networking, and encouraging and motivating each other!  Gangbusters!

This process is called masterminding and is one of the most effective success tools you can adopt! It is a powerful way to support your dreams and bring unlimited resources to your business and personal life.
Bestselling author Jack Canfield states, “Participating in a mastermind group has been critical to me. I can’t imagine achieving all I have without one, and it certainly made my goals happen much faster.”  So if the “big fish” do master-minding, why shouldn’t you and I? For 3 years, I facilitated a mastermind group comprised of company presidents and CEO’s, and it was inspiring to witness how the members helped each other reach goals faster, and achieve more in their personal lives as well.

The premise of a mastermind group is that more can be accomplished–and more quickly–when people work together. Often called a “dream team”, mastermind groups are comprised of two or more individuals who commit to come together on a regular basis – usually biweekly, or monthly – to share ideas, information, thoughts, resources, feedback, and support.

Groups are comprised of members who are industry-specific, or from a variety of professions.  The focus of your group could be on business, building income, starting a business, experiencing better life balance, or dealing with social or community problems.
Everyone in the group benefits from the empowerment, perspective, expertise and talents of other members, who can  inspire and motivate you to become all you can be!
Create Your Master Mind Group
Choosing and inviting the right blend of people is key. Engage friendly, on-purpose, like-minded individuals…folks who are already where you’d like to be in your life – or even beyond that. Meet with one or two initial members, then add other agreed-upon people individuals who can and WILL work in harmony for the growth of each other.
1. 6-8 members is ideal. Less than 4 is not enough wisdom and support, and over 8 is too unwieldy to ensure full involvement of all members at a meeting.
2. Start off with weekly meetings, to help with the bonding and communiction-building.  Afte 4-56 weekly meetings, consider meeting 1 or two times per month.  Keep meetings to an hour to an hour and a half.
3. Group meetings must be regarded as “sacred times” and life-affirming.  Keep meetings enriching, encouraging and upbeat…creating a space to affirm the members. You might want to start with an inspiring story or quote–or a short time of meditation or prayer.
4. Members must each agree to participate fully and openly, sharing ideas, contacts, information, support, feedback, i.e.: anything that could help the individual and group.
5. Kick off by each person share a “win”, or something that they’re grateful for since the last meeting.
6. Second, each member shares a challenge, or “open-door” since the last meeting,  asking for the support they need. Appoint a time-keeper to keep the discussion on track and the meeting on time. This is critical for keeping the group viable. Everyone must get value, and have time to share, at each meeting.
7. Each person then states what they will complete or do before the next meeting.
8. Finish with celebrations of and for each other, as well as stated appreciation.
Accountability is THE  GREATEST value of a mastermind group.  The CEO groups I facilitated stated that that was the most powerful benefit of all.  Making those commitments to other people is one way to ensure you’ll accomplish more in less time!

Succeed Via Reframing the “Have-To’s”

Turn a Have-to Into a Get-to!

Cultivating new, positive habits, or taking small steps, is like moving a rudder of a boat one degree.  It’s not much in itself, but by doing so consistently and intentionally, you will over the course of a month or year, steer your “Success Ship”, to a totally different destination.

About fours years ago, I read something from author/speaker Tim Sanders that changed my life.  Tim shared a simple philosophy : Turn your “have-to-do” activities into “get-to-do” activities. With the new year before us, it’s a good time to decide to cultivate powerful weekly habits which, over the course of this year, will gradually move your “Success Ship” to where you want.

Here’s more about this week’s Success Tip:

Re-framing your have-to’s is always powerful, but especially valuable on Mondays,  when you feel like you have to do so many things – and you feel burned out or overwhelmed.  Or, like me, you feel like you have to re-train or re-focus your “inner monkey” after relaxing over the weekend.

Here’s the idea: re-frame your tasks into opportunities. Author Seth Godin also advocates this mental approach to daily “chores”. Seth once quipped that he didn’t have to blog everyday, he gets to blog everyday. By reframing, you can find more ease, AND more joy in your day to day responsibilities…and you’ll be more productive; and, I’ll bet, more successful

Consider this–most of our activities are probably opportunities that we’ve lost gratitude for. We think of work as something we ‘have to’ go do (after all, it’s WORK, right??), but when we first got the job (or started the business) we thanked our lucky stars that we ‘got to’ have this career opportunity.  Well, we still do!!

Look at your list.  Is there a have-to be re-framed into a get-to? Tim Sanders recommends this approach: Pick out three big tasks you ‘have to’ do this week and pretend that you’ve been fired from them. Imagine you no longer get to manage your team at work. You no longer get to drive your son to baseball games and sit in the bleachers cheering for his team. You no longer get to attend creative meetings to hash out details on the new product. Think about it. Doesn’t that make you feel a little silly for complaining about these types of ‘duties’?

Today I get to blog, do an hour of phone work for my new company and then create a compelling “Meeting of the Minds” product for that new company.  I get to do these things (YAAY!) and I’m grateful for these opportunities. With my new “gratitude attitude” I just may be more productive, more innovative and create a space for others to be the same when they’re with me. Try it yourself. Do this one habit for one week, and see the difference it makes.   Onward and Upward!

To Your Success,
Lynnea

Gratitude and Napoleon HIll’s 6 Steps to Reaching Dreams

There is so much abundance in the world for each of us…
yet we fail to ask,
or we fail to fully open ourselves to receive.

Do you ever wonder why such a small percentage of people truly experience the success they want?  I think that we all know gifted people who somehow never attain what they say they want, never actualizing the talents, intellect and advantages with which they may have been gifted.  Inversely, there are numerous stories of people who start with very little, and achieve much more than anyone would have expected.
Why is this?  Here’s one reason, according to Napoleon Hill—“The majority of people never discover the difference between wishing and believing; nor do they recognize that there are six steps which people usually follow in using their mind-power for the attainment of their desires.”
These steps are:
First: The vast majority of people go through life by merely wishing for things.  The percentage of people who stop at wishing is estimated at 70%.

Second: A much smaller percentage of the people develop their wishes into desires. These are estimated at 10%.

Third:
A still smaller percentage of the people develop their wishes and desires into hopes. These are estimated at 8%.

Fourth: A still smaller percentage of the people step their mind-power up to where it becomes belief. These are estimated at 6%.

Fifth:
And yet a very much smaller percentage of the people crystallize wishes, desires and hopes into belief, and then into burning desire, and finally faith. This percentage is estimated at 4%.

Sixth:
And last, a very small percentage of the people take the last two steps, putting their faith into action by (1) planning and (2) acting to carry out their plans. This percentage is estimated at only 2%!

”The outstanding leaders in every walk of life are the ones in the sixth
group. They recognize the power of their own minds, take possession of that
power and direct it to whatever ends they choose. To these people the word
“impossible” has no meaning. To them, everything they want or need is possible–
they manage to get it. The only trait which differentiates them from most of
the others who accept failure as their lot, is that they recognize and use
their mind-power for the attainment of the circumstances and things they
want while the others do not.”

How to open up possibilities, wishes, desires, hopes, beliefs, faith, and action, and start moving into the world of success?  Start with gratitude…every day.  This is a great time, around the Thanksgiving holiday, to start building your “gratitude muscles”, and opening up your heart, mind, and faith to possibilities.  Gratitude takes our focus off our “don’t haves” and gets us excited about what we DO have, ever-so-gently nudging us into the world of abundance thinking.  Once we start residing there, we start naturally resonating with possibilities, wishes, desires, hopes…and a chain reaction, an “abundance evolution” starts within us, which grows into beliefs, faith, and action.
So, this Thanksgiving, start the daily, conscious habit of gratitude (each day, Oprah lists 5 things that’s she’s grateful for—if she has time to do this, you do, too!)  Yes, every day!
Wishes, desires, hopes, beliefs, faith, and action…where are you?  Start your journey to action (and success!) with gratitude.  Then, next Thanksgiving, see how much more successful you not only feel, but truly ARE.
With Gratitude for You, and So Much More–

Three 7’s (and a F*R*E*E Gift) to Focus Your Success!

Doesn’t it feel GREAT when you focus your efforts and things come together, and you get what you were aiming for?  Kind of like getting a strike in bowling, isn ‘t it?  The challenge is–how to do this on a bigger, more life-changing, business-impacting, success-building scale?

Here are 3 sets of 7 things to address (and take time to DO), in order to gain more clarity, passion AND focus to propel you and your business to the next level. (These are adapted from my dear friend Gary Massari, a wealth coach and coach to some of the top MLM achievers in the industry.)
>>Don’t miss your FREE gift–“The Attraction Marketers Manifesto” E-Book.  This could double or triple your results and attract prospects to you.  See below for details<<

The First 7–Questions to Ask. These are questions that you should ask and answer regularly as part of your personal strategic planning:Here are several additional questions that you should ask and answer regularly as part of your personal strategic planning:

  1. If you could wave a magic wand and have whatever you wished for in any part of your life, what would it be?
  2. If you could design your perfect lifestyle, day in and day out, what would it look like?
  3. If you could create your perfect calendar, how would you spend each day, each week, each month, and each year?
  4. How would you change your life if you received $1 million cash, tax free, today?  What is the first thing you would do?
  5. What parts of your work do you enjoy the most and do the best? Where do you excel?  What sorts of activities make you the happiest?
  6. What would you do, how would you spend your time, if you learned today that you had only six month to live?
  7. What one thing would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail? If you were absolutely guaranteed success in any one goal, small or large, short term or long term, what would it be?

When you ask and answer these questions honestly, you dramatically increase your awareness of who you are and what you want.  Invariably, you will find that there are things you are doing today that you should stop doing as soon as possible.  In addition, you will realize that there are things you should be doing more of and new activities that you should be starting.

The Second 7–Areas of Your Life. This will enable you to clarify what you want in each area and what you have to do to get the things you want.  The seven areas of life are the following:

  1. Business and career: How do you become extremely successful and satisfied and move to the top of your field?
  2. Family and personal life: How do you achieve balance between external success and your personal relationships?
  3. Money and investments: How do you get your financial life under control and achieve financial independence?
  4. Health and fitness: How do you achieve and maintain high levels of fitness, energy, and overall well-being?
  5. Personal growth and development:  How do you identify and acquire the key knowledge and skills that you need to live an extraordinary life?
  6. Social and community activities: How do you structure your life to leave a real difference in the world and leave a lasting legacy?
  7. Spiritual development and inner peace:  How to you organized your inner life and thinking so that you realize your full potential as a human being?

Give yourself a grade in each area, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.  You will find that most of your stress and unhappiness comes in the area where you give yourself the lowest grade.  Once you identify that area, you can determine the specific steps you need to take to get that area under control.

The Third 7–The Focal Points.  There are seven steps that make up a system of personal strategic planning that enables you to determine where to put the X in each part of your life.

  1. Values:  What are your values, virtues, qualities, and traits that are most important to you in each area of your life?
  2. Vision:  If your life were perfect in this area five years from today, what would it look like?
  3. Goals: What specific goals must you achieve to fulfill your ideal future vision in that area?
